In keeping with the theme of my blog, when it comes to food, I find that balance is the key. I enjoy everything in moderation since I know there are just some foods I couldn’t live without.

Another thing I enjoy is “healthifying” some of the foods I love, especially baking as I do have a sweet tooth and sugar regularly calls my name. This allows me to enjoy some of my old comfort foods in a new healthy, guilt-free fashion and helps me stick to that level of balance that I love.

I don’t count calories (or Points). Although I feel it’s a valuable tool, calorie counting and I don’t mix very well and I have a much happier relationship with food without. I find that sticking to reasonable portions sizes of mainly fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean protein provide me with adequate nutrition and energy to last the day. Out of curiosity I have totalled my daily calories a couple times in the past couple of months (once I hit maintenance) and on average I eat 1800-2000 calories per day which is perfectly healthy for my weight and activity level.

Overall, I try to eat 80% healthy, whole foods and 20% of fun but less healthy foods like chocolate and pizza. I find that this lets me enjoy my food and life while still feeling healthy and in control.

Who Am I?

I'm Valerie, a university student trying to strike a balance between school, my social life and a healthy lifestyle. Over the past year, I've made a lot of positive changes to my life that resulted in losing over 40 pounds! I'm now trying to lead a fully balanced lifestyle and maintain my weight.
